Telic Engineering / Controls / GE Mark VI and Mark VIe

GE Mark VI and Mark VIe. From terminal board to Trender.

Unit tripped, inspection due, or a start-up after an engine exchange? We troubleshoot, inspect, start up and commission GE Mark VI and Mark VIe on LM2500 and LM2500+G4 packages, offshore and onshore. The engine, its instruments and its protection are what we know inside out; the control system is where we read and prove them.

Where we work on a Mark VIe system

The six places where most of our work happens, numbered as in the drawing at the top of the page.

  1. 01Trip history and Trender. A trip or a failed start leaves its trace in the trip history, the diagnostic alarms and Trender in ToolboxST. We read that first, and only then go to the wiring and the parts.
  2. 02I/O packs and terminal boards. A reading you cannot trust costs more than a trip. Every pack sits on its terminal board with its own processor and network ports. Loop checks from the field device to the value in ToolboxST, and pack replacement with the checks that go with it.
  3. 03Speed and servos. Speed signals and fuel valves decide whether the unit starts and holds load. Speed pickups to the turbine and protection I/O, servo outputs to the fuel metering valves and variable geometry, and the overspeed trip tested through the protection system, not assumed.
  4. 04Controllers and voting. Redundancy only helps if it works when it is needed. Simplex, dual or TMR with controllers R, S and T. A TMR unit keeps running with one controller down, which also means a failed controller can go unnoticed. We check all three and the voting, before it turns into a second failure.
  5. 05IONet. Ethernet between the controllers and the I/O packs, with separate R, S and T networks and switches. Link faults and a dead switch show up as diagnostics long before they cause a trip, if someone reads them.
  6. 06HMI and operators. Alarms, trends and dynamic data recordings explained to operations, so the crew knows what happened and what to do next time.

What we do

By engineers who have done it before. Every job comes with a short daily report and paperwork you can use.

Troubleshooting

Trips, failed starts, diagnostic alarms, I/O and network faults. Trip history and Trender first, then the wiring, then the parts.

4k and 8k inspections

The controls and instrumentation scope of 4k, 8k and annual inspections on Mark VI and Mark VIe units, including safety-critical instrumentation.

Start-up after an exchange

Engine or gas generator exchange: the checks before the first start, the start itself and the run-up to load.

Loop checks and calibration

Instrument loops, thermocouples, vibration and speed chains checked end to end, with calibration sheets you can file.

Commissioning

New Mark VIe packages and control upgrades: point-to-point checks after the panel work, functional tests, first start and load tests, within the outage window.

Control health checks

Controllers, voting, networks, power supplies and pack diagnostics on a running unit, written up so you know what to fix at the next outage.

Questions we get

Do you work for GE Vernova or for the operator?

Both. GE Vernova is one of the companies we are registered with as a supplier, and much of our Mark VI and Mark VIe work is for OEMs, packagers and service providers, as their field engineer. We also work directly for operators, alongside the OEM team where a service contract is in place.

Woodward or GE, does it matter for the job?

Less than people think. We are experts on Woodward and GE control systems, and on an LM2500 the engine, the instruments and the protection are the same whichever control runs them; the platform is where you read and prove them. Our track record has Mark VI and Mark VIe jobs every year from 2018 to 2025, next to the Woodward work.

Do you commission Mark VI to Mark VIe upgrades?

Yes. Point-to-point checks after the panel work, functional tests of every sequence and trip, first start and load test, planned so it fits the outage.

Do you supply parts?

Hard-to-find and obsolete control and instrumentation parts for Mark VI and Mark VIe packages, sourced through our supplier network, checked for compatibility, installed and tested on site.

How fast can you get an engineer to site?

Send the start date, location and scope and you get availability and an estimate the same working day. Offshore certificates (OPITO BOSIET/FOET, MIST, offshore medical) are kept current, so paperwork is not what holds you up.

Can you send more than one engineer?

Yes. For campaigns or several units at once we add contractors from our own network, under our agreement, our insurance and our reporting. How resource supply works.
